FALL TRAINING AGENDA AND SESSION OFFERINGS

Breakout Session (Choose 1)

Session: Thunderbolt Trivia – E-Book Edition

Description:
Ready to level up your e-book game? Join us for an epic trivia quest through the POWER Library e-book collections!  In this session, you’ll master the POWER E-Book Catalog and unlock its secrets.  You’ll delve into the new POWER OverDrive collection of e-books and e-audiobooks.  And you’ll discover some of the new titles hidden inside our Gale and EBSCO e-book collections – many of which have bonus, interactive, levels just waiting to be explored!

Content will be relevant for all library staff.

Objectives:
As a result of this session:  1) You’ll gain experience (XP) using the POWER E-Book Catalog.  2)  You’ll level up by exploring the new POWER Library OverDrive Collection.  3)  You’ll unlock some of the bonus features available inside many of our new Gale and EBSCO e-books.

Breakout Session (Choose 1)

Session: The POWER Library Playbook

Description:
Join us as we review everything you need to know to master participating in and using POWER Library services at your library.   Test your knowledge of the basics and beyond as we navigate the Librarians Hub, showcase the new POWER Library website, check out the offerings in the improved POWER Academy, and share important updates.

Content will be relevant for all library staff.

Objectives:
As a result of this session: 1) You will discover all of the support features within the Librarians Hub 2) You will learn how to access POWER Library training tutorials and outreach materials


Session: Access Pennsylvania: Who wants to be a mILLionaire?

Description:
Come on Down to Contestant’s Row for the most exciting hour of Access PA training!
It will be Aces High and Deuces Low as we Buy a Vowel to ensure our Final Answer is to be better participants in the cooperative. Our Survey Says the topics covered are designed to help you save Big Bucks with No Whammies, such as your Participant Record, Union Catalog vs. Ztarget Participation, and MARC records. This round will also explore the question to the Final Jeopardy answer: This model’s creation is credited to FedEx founder Fred Smith and is a method to more cheaply move ILL items around Pennsylvania.

Come prepared to log in to SHAREit in real time
– and while you will need to bring a laptop or tablet to play along, you won’t need to Buy a Vowel to ensure that the Circle Gets the Square.

NOTE: This session will NOT be covering basic lending and borrowing procedures.

Content will be relevant for all library staff who process ILLs or who supervise the ILL processor, regardless of library type.

Objectives:
As a result of this session: 1) You’ll learn how to maintain your library’s Participant Record to support maximum efficiency. 2) You’ll learn how to use the reporting features in SHAREit to better manage your participation. 3) You’ll glean some cheat code bonus content to better function in the SHAREit environment.

Each session will begin with a review and lesson of select POWER Library e-resources and conclude with a digital escape room activity.

The Great School Escape – The Recess Rush

Description:
You’ve been dropped into the heart of middle school, a world teeming with curious minds and unexpected questions. Your mission for the morning: survive the first four periods, teaching on subjects you barely remember! Your only way out? Reach lunch and recess, the ultimate freedom!   Thankfully, you’re not entirely on your own. You’ve got access to a special set of tools from POWER Library:  OverDrive E-Books, Britannica, SIRS Discoverer, Science Reference Source, and AP News.  Use these resources wisely to navigate the digital escape room by answering your students’ questions and each successful interaction will bring you closer to the goal – but will you make it?  Only time will tell!

Content will be relevant to school library staff and children’s services staff.

Objectives:
As a result of this session:  1) You’ll discover some useful tips and tricks to help you (and your users) build their information literacy skills.  2)  You’ll be able to strategically deploy POWER Library e-resources to solve questions on unfamiliar subjects.  3)  You will become familiar with POWER Library e-resources that serve a school age audience.


Session: Countdown to Trivia – The Champion’s Crucible

Description:
It is PaLA Chapter Trivia Night and your library’s team is one win away from becoming legends- but you need to get through your evening shift and close the library first.   Will you make it in time? Using the POWER Library e-resources at your disposal, including Transparent Language Online, Small Engine Repair Source, MyHeritage, Gale News and Gale Health & Wellness, navigate the digital escape room as you help patrons and overcome a few obstacles on your way to trivia glory.

Content will be relevant to public library staff and high school library staff.

Objectives:
As a result of this session:  1) You’ll discover some useful tips and tricks to help you (and your users) build their information literacy skills.  2)  You’ll be able to strategically deploy POWER Library e-resources to solve questions on unfamiliar subjects.  3) You will become familiar with POWER Library e-resources that serve a general adult audience.
