David Lewis was a notorious outlaw who died in the Bellefonte, PA jail in July 1820. The legendary counterfeiter and robber became known as the “Robin Hood of Pennsylvania” as well as other monikers like “Lewis the Robber”, David “Robber” Lewis, and “Davey Lewis”. David Lewis was born circa 1790 in what is now Milesburg, Centre County, PA. This collection includes original documents which provide unique insights about David’s background and criminal career.
