The Deutsche Ansiedlungs-Gesellschaft zu Philadelphia (German Settlement Society of Philadelphia) was founded in 1836 by a group of German Philadelphians whose goal was to found a German colony somewhere in the West. The records document the organization’s activity between 1836 and 1839, including selling shares, scouting and purchasing land, and detailed plans for building the town of Hermann, Missouri. The records include meeting minutes, correspondence and reports, share certificates, and the original acts of incorporation for Hermann.
